Safe staffing
Ensuring NHS organisations are staffed with the appropriate number and mix of clinical professionals is vital to the delivery of effective care and in keeping patients safe from avoidable harm.
All hospitals are now required to publish information about the number of nursing and midwifery staff working on each ward, together with the percentage of shifts meeting safe staffing guidelines.
This is part of the NHS response to the Francis report which called for greater openness and transparency in the health service.
To support this requirement, Informatics Merseyside has developed a SharePoint application which provides procedural information, records and publishes information on ward staffing levels.
Benefits include:
- Improved reporting data on ward staffing levels.
- Facility to disseminate improved guidance from the Department of Health.
