Video guide: How to set up your MFA account
Step one: Install the Microsoft Authenticator app
Open the Play Store. Search for Microsoft Authenticator. Tap Install. During installation allow any app permissions requested, including using the camera.

- Tap Open. Tap Add account. Select Work or School Account.
- Select Scan QR code
Step two: Set up MFA on your user account
- On your computer, visit https://aka.ms/mfasetup
(For the best results, please use either Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.) - Enter your work email address. Click Next.
- Enter the account password you use to sign in to Windows. Click Sign in
- Click Add sign-in method
- Select Authenticator app. Click Add
- You will be prompted to install the Microsoft Authenticator app. Click Next
- To set up your MFA account, select Next
- A QR code will be generated.
Step three: Link your user account with your authenticator app
- Use the camera on your Android or iOS device to scan the QR code on your computer screen. You can do this by positioning the camera over the QR code. You may be prompted to enable access to your camera in your settings.
- On your computer, select Next.
- A test notification will be sent to the Authenticator app and a number will be displayed on the computer screen
- On your mobile device, enter the number displayed on the computer screen and select Yes
- On your computer, select Next.
Troubleshooting
The system has signed me into the wrong Microsoft account
If the system automatically signs you into another Microsoft Account, such as your NHS.net account, you will need to clear the browsing data by following the guidance below.
- From Google Chrome, select the three dots from the top right corner of the screen.
- Select More tools
- Click Clear browsing data
- Change the dropdown option to All time, untick the Browsing history option.
- Select Clear data
Once the data has been cleared, retry the authentication process.
